Local angler, Keith Miller, set out to catch a fish a day for a year.  He is going to tell us about his quest.  That sounds like a fun program.

We’ll get started at the Waco Wetlands about 6:00 pm tying flies and doing all that informal stuff we do.  The weather should be ideal so if you know somebody who would like to try some fly casting, make an invitation. Our club fly rods will be available.

The program will start about 7:00 pm and we will have a fly drawing afterwards.  Tiers bring a few of your favorites to throw into the pot.

Fly Fishing from a Stand Up Paddleboard

About 7:00 p.m.

Two days ago we didn’t even have a program scheduled.  Happily, Pat Vanek never gives up.  He found a program for our July meeting that looks great.  Hunter Harlow, who apparently has been hiding in plain sight right here in Waco, is going to talk about fly fishing from a stand up paddleboard.  For the more mature members of our club, don’t panic, you can secure a cooler to a paddleboard and sit from time to time.

Hunter Harlow is co-owner of Sendero Provisions Co, here in Waco, an adventure gear company that sells hats, prints and stickers. He’s also a well known stand up paddleboard (SUP) fly fishing expert, an ambassador of BOTE boards, and a pending Geology Ph.D at Baylor.  Hunter will be giving our club a presentation on the ins and outs of this growing sport. Hunter said he’d bring his board and paddle to check out, and I’m sure he can get you set up if you want to try this out. He fishes all of our local rivers including the Brazos and Middle Bosque.

Fly Fishing for Exotics in South Florida

About 7:00 p.m.

Our speaker this month is Jim Gray, past president of the Austin Fly Fishers and current president of the International Fly Fishers Texas Council.  Jim has been fly fishing, rod building and fly tying for 35 years.  This will be the 4th presentation that Jim has given to the Waco Fly Fishers.  Previously, Jim spoke to us about Finding Your Own Secret Spot, Fly Fishing the Texas Hill Country for Carp and Fly Fishing the Llano River.  His job has given him the opportunity to fly fish all over the world, but his favorite places to fish are the Texas Hill Country and his native South Florida.
